The graduate program in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech is becoming one of the top programs in the country. The resources and facilities for research areas such as human-computer interaction, bioinformatics, creative arts, and high-end computing are state of the art, and our growing list of active research areas provides opportunities for students to concentrate their research and study on the specific aspects of computer science in which they are most interested. Or you can do pioneering work at the intersection of multiple disciplines, as our faculty work with outside researchers across nearly every field. At Virginia Tech, students receive firsthand instruction by award-winning faculty who have helped to define today's computer industry. The CS Department spans the Blacksburg campus and our facilities in Northern Virginia. Research track (MS/PhD) students may apply to either campus, and many switch between the two depending on their research interests. The MEng program is primarily (but not exclusively) at the Northern Virginia campus.

In all official University documentation, our departmen'ts graduate degree is referred to as "Computer Science & Applications", and the official acronym is "CSA".
