The main metrics we use to measure the health of our research funding are total funding of research in the department and research expenditures per tenure-track faculty member. Longitudinal views of these metrics are shown in the charts below; they show the effects of a cohort of junior faculty hired in the early 2000's attaining tenure and increased research visibility and activity. The funding typically comes from a variety of external sources; in FY2014 these were: NSF (48%), NIH (11%), defense (10%), other federal (24%), corporate (6%), state (~1%).
