Recent Ph.D. graduate Alex Endert was honored by IEEE's Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee (VGTC) with its first annual Best Doctoral Dissertation Award.  The award was presented at the IEEE VIS Conference in October 2013. Alex completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Virginia Tech in August 2012. His dissertation, "Semantic Interaction for Visual Analytics: Inferring Analytical Reasoning for Model Steering," was done under the supervision of Dr. Chris North.  Endert expressed his appreciation for the award:  "I am truly honored to receive this recognition from our peers. It goes without saying that this would not have been possible without Chris North's guidance over the years."
