The Department of Computer Science is proud to present Blocksburg 2021. This event, part of the Virginia Tech Blockchain Initiative that is sponsored by a signature gift from, will extend the ideas discussed during the 2019 Blocksburg Summit to a virtual audience. 

For this year’s conference, we will have a webinar format that extends the reach of an in-person conference to attendees that may not be able to come to Blacksburg for our typical conference. Participation in the conference is free and open to all. There is no charge for attendance; however, we have provided an option to make a gift at check-out for those who would like to contribute. All gifts will benefit the Computer Science Annual Fund. If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email at least 10 business days prior to the event.

Blocksburg 2021 Sessions:


Colonel James Regenor; Founder and CEO, VeriTX

Presentation with Q&A; 11:00-11:50am

James Regenor is a leading voice in the area of blockchain and decentralized manufacturing. In this session, he will present about the future of applying blockchain to remotely manufacture as a means to reduce costs and time in supply chains. Decentralized manufacturing has tremendous potential to realign the ways that businesses utilize blockchain to repair, create, and replace products in submarines, aircrafts and space.

Keel Coleman; Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer, ArchiveCore
Andrew Lindberg, Senior Software Development Mentor, Exelaration

Panel Discussion; 10:00-10:50am

In this session, health care leaders from SWVA will discuss the potential of blockchain in the healthcare sector. Lennox McNeary and Keel Coleman will discuss their experience developing a blockchain focused application to improve credentialing of health care professionals. Andrew Lindberg will discuss partnering with ArchiveCore to organize the techhnological aspects of the blockchain. ArchiveCore and Exelaration are both local companies in Region 2 of Virginia.

This discussion presents two sides of the same coin for a federal government/private-sector blockchain collaboration. The project lead from the private company (Octo) and federal department (HHS) will discuss the ways that their partnership demonstrates the potential for using blockchain in the federal government.

Keynote Address; Noon-12:50pm

In the Blocksburg 2021 keynote address, Wendy Henry will examine the future applications of blockchain. She will discuss the ways that network effects can provide value, how blockchain can ensure efficacy of data, increase transparency, and bolster verification in business and government applications.
