Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

The research area of computational biology and bioinformatics (CBB) encompasses the study of problems inspired by biology through computational means. Research projects often involve close collaboration with life scientists in other departments across campus.

Some areas of CBB of particular interest to our current faculty include:

  • Computational genomics
  • Single-cell gene expression
  • Applications of machine learning to CBB
  • Metagenomics
  • Computational epidemiology
  • Viral genomics
  • Evolution
  • Biophysics of proteins and DNA
  • Protein structure prediction
  • Simulation of biological systems
  • Biological networks
